To Determine

Happy New Year 2020, church family! This is the time of year when New Year

resolutions are created and at times carried out to their fruition. Resolutions in them-

selves are not necessarily bad, but Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 2:2, “For I determined not

to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” Our crucified

Savior was the unique subject and center of Paul’s ministry. He lived what he believed,

and he preached what he lived: Christ and Him Crucified. In this he did not determine

to know anything else but the One crucified. When he went to minister the Word of

the testimony of God to the “excellent in speech/exalting in wisdom” world at that time,

Paul’s theme of his message was Jesus. What a determination! It should be the resolve of

us all. As we enter the new year and wait for our Lord’s return, let us determine not to

know anything but Christ and Him crucified.
